Eliot who is buried in the Parish Church of St. Michael. In the valley below Pendomer House is the village of Pendomer and the church, St Roch Church. The first recorded date for this church is 1297 where the rector is named as Johannis Personis. The church in its present form dates from about 1320. Pendomer is named after the Dummer or Domer family, who can be traced as living in Penne-Dumer from 1148. It is believed that the son of Sir John Dummer (1268-1320) rebuilt the church in memory of his father and he dedicated it to a rather obscure saint of France, St Roch.
